::BIOGRAPHY::
With relentless energy and
dedication to drumming, Ed Freitas has rapidly gained reverence
in the music industry around the globe.
His unique and professional approach as
performer, facilitator, clinician and in the studio has rendered
him much in
demand with countless artistes and
organisations internationally.
Having taken up
drumming at a very early age he worked continuously at excelling
in his instrument. He entered regional and national
level snare drumming competitions throughout his teen
years which resulted in him receiving top awards
(including national colours) on a
regular basis. Since then, Ed's worked with innumerable artistes, bands and organisations
as professional drummer, producer, studio engineer and
guitar player in all major genres He's performed
extensively at prominent venues around the globe,
including stadiums to small clubs.
Apart from his
work as clinician and solo artiste, Ed is in demand as session drummer, being
frequently called out to play at a moment's notice. He
works with different top artistes on a day-to-day basis,
mostly signed to major labels, and also with bands seeking
record deals or needing a dep. In 2006, for example,
he was booked for over 200 live performances and 300 in
2007! In 2007 he performed in over 20 countries
around the world!
Ed's own project
is called Cyba*Drummer. It stems from an idea he had in
1996 whilst in a band called 2WIN. In the Cyba project, Ed plays his songs
mostly from behind his
drum kit, using triggers, electronic pads, synths,
samplers and groovebosxes and vocals. The Cyba*Drummer has
been performing around the UK and globally. The new
album is close to completion and will be released through
Peanut Sardine Records soon
As an
independent artiste, Ed previously released 2 solo albums (CJY2K and RAID) and
one EP entitled 'Steel Dance'. The ‘RAID’ album was released in
conjunction with RockSpider Music & Publishing.
He also put out an instructional drumming CD (Overview of
Basics) in 1999 and more recently a DVD titled Beat2Beat
with Terl Bryant and Dez Minto.
Ed recently took part in some
challenging feats, including to successfully break the
Guinness World Record (GWR) for the ‘longest continuous
drum roll’, playing with 3 other top drummers, Terl
Bryant, Calum Rees and Liam Watts for an unbelievable 22
hours non-stop!
Guinness World Records have confirmed that the
attempt was successful.
Due to these and other events, he is frequently
interviewed in newspapers, magazines and other
publications, recently being featured for example in
‘Rhythm’ magazine with Drummerbuzz, and ‘Home &
Away’ magazines amongst numerous others.
Ed has
also recently been featured on mainstream television channels in the
United Kingdom, (BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4) and various
channels across Europe and Africa.
He appeared on the
popular ‘Richard & Judy’ show for an interviewed in which he also
performed a drum solo with top drummer, Terl Bryant (John Paul
Jones, Honeyz etc).
Ed is founder
and director of the ever-growing company Drummerbuzz Ltd
and also official director/judge for
WFD (World’s Fastest Drummer™) in the UK and most of
the European continent (licence granted by the owner
McAfee, Inc based in the USA).
As part of Drummerbuzz, he has worked with and
hosted numerous world class drummers in clinics such as
Gerald Heyward, Louie Palmer, Terl Bryant and a great many
others.
Recently Ed also
did clinics with Zoro the drummer (Lenny Kravitz, Bobby
Brown), Tommy Aldridge (Whitesnake, Ozzy, THin Lizzy),
Jerry Brown (Girls Aloud, Will Young) and many others.
Ed currently
holds active membership
of the Musician's Union and Percussive Arts Society.
